What You Can Do
The following are things you can do to reduce fuel consumption:
- Plan your trips and driving routes to avoid traffic congestion
- Observe speed limits
- Accelerate evenly
- Drive smoothly
- Limit the use of accessories
- Don’t carry more than you need
- Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained
If you own a vehicle of model year 1995 or earlier, you may also want to investigate the Government of Canada’s national vehicle scrappage program. The Retire Your Ride program offers Canadians rewards for voluntarily retiring their older, higher-polluting vehicles.
